About
I compose, I light, I wait for the right expression, and my invoices are mostly on time. I've lit a chef with nothing but a bare bulb and a bounce card in a walk-in cooler. I've photographed an elderly cat psychologist mid-monologue to her Siamese in a book-lined apartment, a guy racing a modified lawnmower at a county fair, and Wayne Newton in front of the Flamingo marquee at golden hour, on cue, first take. I've talked a chihuahua in a jester costume into holding still, which is harder than it sounds. I've shot a shotgun, a wood-fired pizza oven, and a man kneading dough for a Martha Stewart cooking class, sometimes in the same week.
I picked up a Pentax K1000 at sixteen and never really put it down. Brooks Institute taught me the technical side. Twenty years of assignments taught me the rest: kitchens, casino floors, showrooms, and whatever's happening backstage when nobody's supposed to be watching. Last year I served as a judge for the James Beard Awards for visuals, which was a genuinely strange and wonderful thing to get asked to do.
On weekends, my wife and I are basically an Uber service for our two boys between sports. We laugh, we occasionally lose our minds, and by Friday we've earned the same pizza and a different bottle of wine every time. A few years back I climbed Mt. Whitney solo. Took seventeen hours. I'd do it again, badly.
